After disk jockey Tiesto & shock rocker Marilyn Manson dominated the G’day Mate John Music Awards last year, the Best Male Artist category has made way for a fresh bunch of new nominees. With Eminem, Usher & Enrique Iglasius all receiving nominations in previous years, two new faces in the form of Taio Cruz & Bruno Mars now hit the scene.
Usher Raymond has seen 2010 as one of his most successful years yet, his current album “Raymond v. Raymond” has spawned the hits “DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again” as well as smashing the GMJ Charts with the hit “O.M.G” ft. Will.i.am, who is also nominated for a few awards this year along with his fellow Black Eyed Peas.
Rapper Eminem has won this category in previous years and is in the running again with his latest offering “Recovery”. Including the hit “Not Afraid”, it was his collaboration with Rihanna on “Love The Way You Lie” which really got the attention of the GMJ Charts.
Newcomer Bruno Mars has quickly and certainley got the attention of the world. His debut album has unleashed the tracks “Just The Way You Are” & “Grenade” onto the world, however it was his work with B.o.B on “Nothin’ On You” and with Travis McCoy on “Billionaire” that really helped cement his position in the Best Male Artists Nominees this year.
Fellow newcomer Taio Cruz blasted his way onto the scene very early in 2010 with his track “Break Your Heart” but it wasn’t until teaming up with Ke$ha for “Dirty Picture” that the ball really started rolling. With three number one GMJ tracks including “Dynamite”, “Higher” and his collaberation with Ke$ha, Taio will be a force to be reckoned with for this years award.
And last but not least, long time GMJ fave Enrique Iglasius returned this year better than ever. Also having won in this category previousley, Enrique dominated the GMJ Charts with tracks such as “I Like It”, “Tonight (I’m F**king You) and SOTY Nominee “Heartbeat” with ex-pussycat Doll Nicole Sherzinger.
